Brush your pet's coat first to remove any large tangles or mats — the flea combs work best on untangled fur. Select the comb that matches the area you're checking: wide comb for broad body areas, fine-tooth for dense coat, small comb for face and ears.
Work through the coat in sections, keeping the comb teeth close to the skin on each stroke. Start at the head and neck — prime flea territory — then move down the back, belly, under the legs and to the base of the tail. Slow, deliberate strokes catch more than fast passes.
Dip the comb in warm soapy water between passes to drown any fleas and remove flea dirt, eggs and loose hair. This stops fleas from jumping back onto your pet and keeps the comb working effectively throughout the session.
After the session, rinse all combs under running water and dry thoroughly. The stainless steel teeth resist rust and maintain their spacing with regular washing. Store the set together for the next weekly or daily check depending on your pet's situation.
